STARS! - Stars for a Day
Stars 2024
"Stars '24" took place on the morning of Wednesday 22nd May at the King's Hall, Ilkley, and what a morning it was! So much talent was displayed by the performers from All Saints, Ashlands and Burley Oaks Primary Schools! It was an awesome morning!
A huge variety of performances took place. Amazing gymnastic teams were performing all manner of jaw-dropping moves, instrumentalists playing saxophone, cornet, violin and electric guitar solos. We had a choir, a band, a poetry recitalist, percussion and singing, and several little girls with glorious voices all singing solos and with such confidence.
There were brilliant piano soloists, one of whom played his own composition with such tenderness and sensitivity. It deserves to be recorded and featured on Classic FM. We even had a comedy sketch in the true folklore of Stand-Up, with an accompanying drumkit. Boom boom! And we had two dance ensembles with huge entertainment value! One was a tribute to the Teletubbies, dressed in the appropriately coloured costumes, and you could swear they were the real thing. The other group entered the stage wearing inflated shark suits which towered above them, only their eyes visible behind the tiny windows, and they performed a Dance Mashup! Imagination ran riot in the preparations made by the Stars this year.
Each year these participating children craft their own performances without any teacher involvement and they take possession of the stage and truly own it.
I cannot thank the Schools, their Staff and Pupils enough for giving their support to this event and to the parents who supported the bucket collection raising almost £50 to help defray the cost of hiring the venue.
Next year, "Stars" will take place again in the Kings Hall on Wednesday 21st May. Looking forward to it already.
